Müller-Catoir Pfalz Riesling Burgergarten – Breumel in den Mauern GG 2011

13,99900

Primarily spontaneously fermented and cask-matured, the Muller-Catoir 2011 Haardter Burgergarten Breumel In den Mauern Riesling Grosses Gewachs opens with an alluring nose of mint, sage and iris, behind which lurk intimations of chalk and crushed stone. Full and almost caressing in mid-palate texture but with admirable retention of animating and refreshing primary apple and lime juiciness, this finishes with a pungent and invigorating impingement of white pepper along with herbal, floral and stony characteristics such as were intimated in the nose. As with the other dry Rieslings of the present collection, I suspect that this will be best drunk through 2018 though it may well “live” a lot longer, and perhaps (which would please me) defy my prediction by performing beautifully a decade or more from now. This 2011 collection of Muller-Catoir Rieslings is singular and confounds any obvious or easy extrapolation from past collections.
