Champagne Laherte Frères Les Empreintes Brut N/V
A leesy, subtly cheesy overtone to Laherte’s NV Brut Les Empreintes Disg. 3/2012 – 20% Meunier and the rest evenly divided between you-know-who; from the eponymous vineyard in Chavot – puts me faintly in mind of certain Mosel Rieslings with their little “stink,” though – here, as there – I am by no means prepared to assign this to a particular reductive source. Scents of fresh apple and pear with nutty, herbal and sea breeze accents emerge from behind that, anticipating the brightly juicy impression on a firm palate with hazelnut and lentil sprout serving for piquant counterpoint to the fruit, and salinity lending welcome saliva-inducement to a long, savory and invigorating finish. I suspect that this will prove worth following for at least 3-4 years.
